About FWD

FWD enables anyone with a broadband connection to communicate over the Internet, whether it be instant messaging, voice, or video. See fwd.pulver.com for more details.

Because FWD is using the open protocol SIP, it can be used with the pbxnsip PBX. The nice thing is that because it is free it can be easily be used for testing the PBX trunking into the Internet world. If you specify a special prefix in the dial plan, you can tell PBX users to use that prefix if they want to place a free phone call into the FWD realm.

How to set up a trunk

The trunk setup is quite similar to the other operators. We used the following settings successfully:

  • Display Name: 394587
  • Account: 394587
  • Registrar: fwd.pulver.com
  • Username: 394587
  • Password: bigsecret
  • Outbound Proxy: fwdnat.pulver.com:5082

There are several possibilities for the outbound proxy, but the above seems to use a session border controller which takes care about the NAT-related problems. Other settings are not necessary.

After setup, check if you are registered and the refresh interval is around in the 20-40 seconds range. You can initiate a call from the web interface at fwd.pulver.com, but will not hear any audio (that seems to be ok). If you dial 613, you should hear a echo test where you can test if you can have a two-way audio conversation.
